Spring Has Sprung

I’d not been to FBi Social before Jordan Millar asked me to support him for his single launch. It’s now my favourite Sydney venue. Thanks to those who came out last night, bought CDs and listened to us play. It was a pleasure to play my music for you.

So I go under the knife in a few weeks and they are cleaning out and reforming the sinus tunnels in my forehead, cheeks and at my request, any other orifice in my head that may be constructed causing my headaches.

So The Boatshed gig with the band next week will be my last show for a little while so please come join us!

Wed. Nov 7 – 8:30pm – free
Old Manly Boashed
The Corso, Manly, Sydney

The Four Pines and The Empire gigs will hopefully be moved to Dec/Jan so stay tuned. Apologies for anyone who was planning to come.

I saw Aussie band, The Rubens and Aussie songstress, Lisa Mitchell last week and have to mention how impressed I was with the latter. I saw Lisa Mitchell play years ago and she has come forward in leaps and bounds. She was confident, engaging and cute.

I also have to note that The Rubens need a style overhaul. The private school boy look just didn’t do it for me, but they sounded great – as does their new record.

Hopefully see you Wednesday!

Pumpkin Head

As I lay in my sexy hospital gown pre-op, a young lad also getting his wisdom teeth out returned from the operating room. “David!”, I heard from a panicked voice two doors down. “David? Can you hear me?”
Young David had fainted as the nurse slid the bloody gauze from his mouth. I listened, horrified, as the nurse yelled for help and for an oxygen machine. Doctors and nurses sprinted past my door, along with the anaesthetist to revive David. I hadn’t eaten for nine hours or had but a drop of water for five. I was beginning to get pretty anxious and prayed I didn’t hear him vomit or that he didn’t die. Thankfully David didn’t die, nor did he vomit and neither did I. Nurse Michelle said I was the perfect patient and in comparison to getting my tonsils out, this has been a walk in the park.

I have been watching many delicious episodes of 30 Rock and eating yoghurt, soup and ice cream joyously!
I’m on the mend and apart from a sore jaw hinge and chowing copious amounts of antibiotics, I’m nearly better.

I will be playing Pony Room in Manly on Thursday night 8-10pm so come hang out and drink wine for me.

Jakey bought be some sweet Sony headphones and ill tell you what.. Music sounds so much crisper and dynamic than on the in ear headphones. I really encourage to get yourself a pair and marvel in the sound quality.

Daylight savings has arrived and it is awesome coming home in daylight. It’s also easier to get up in the morning. How does that work? I’m loving being back at work and how my brain buzzes with motivation and information. I do miss Jack and Ms. Lemon though.. Gosh they’re funny.

Some demo recording or perhaps an ep is in the works for the beginning of Nov. so standby for some fresh tunes!!

Hope you are all well and smiling..

Throw Your Arms Around Me

Tonight I’m supporting Mark Seymour from the iconic Aussie band, Hunters & Collectors. I’m pretty fricken excited and fairly nervous. Andrew will be joining me on stage for our 40 min set , and laying some sweeeet beats down.

Spring has arrived and I have been embracing the sunshine by sitting in the gutter in a Surry Hills side street on my lunch break and riding the ferry across Sydney Harbour. I love the smell of jasmine in the air and the excitement over the days getting longer and warmer.

Spring has arrived

Jakey arrived home from Lagos and surprised me silly with a random phone call three days early. Such a cutie! It is so nice to have him home. It’s also really great that I go to work and he goes surfing, skating and having arvo beers with mates. Naaaaawt.

Played a few gigs recently.. One supporting Jordan Millar at Cafe Lounge (see pic by Kiera Archer) which was good fun and another with the band at The Manly Boatshed and another at Pony Room in Manly for Fathers’ Day. Lots more coming up so see the gigs tab and come on doooown. If you have any covers you’d love to hear me sing then let me know. Always want to build the repertoire.

I am on Instagram, twitter, FB and Linkedin – so join the party.

Guitarist Wanted

Sydney based singer/songwriter Larissa McKay is looking for a lead guitarist to add another dimension to the band’s current sound. Think Indie Missy Higgins, John Mayer etc.
Recording an EP at the end of the year with a producer, and gigs every few weeks. We want someone who has a good ear, has stage and recording experience, loves music and is pretty easy-going. We have all been playing together for four years and want to develop our image and sound – so someone with the same mindset is ideal.

If you think you have the chops and the personality, have a listen to our songs and make sure we’re on the same page. If we are, please email larissamckaymusic@gmail.com with a little blurb on what you’ve done and an MP3 of your playing if possible.
Cheers,
Larissa

Hola innit!

The UK and Europe over Summertime really wet my whistle. There is something about the heat and the sunshine that really wets my whistle.
Over the month trip, I wrote some songs and played some shows to beautiful friends and fans in wonderful London. Thanks to each and every one of you who supported my tour either by watching or buying my music. I had such a good time playing for you and being a tourist in the city I once called home.

I have some footage and audio that I’ll be cutting and slicing so stay tuned for a little video thanks to The Troubadour.

In between shows I managed to sneak away to Spain for BBK Live – a camping festival in the north of the fair land. The Cure, Sum 41, Radiohead and Keane were craaaazy. I’m still high from their beautiful music. When Sum 41 played we lost it and I got a beer thrown at my head. Settle down moite!
The bf and I hired a car and drove through the Spanish countryside without a hitch. Well we scraped a wheel but weren’t charged. Cheers Europa Car.
Not many men can take direction as gracefully as Jakey and he is a terrific parallel parker also. I’m punching above my weight. We had such a fun time.. Saw some beautiful sites, ate incredible food and created some lovely memories for the both of us.

We visited Saragossa, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Granada and Lagos.

It was a whirlwind of a trip and pulled on many heart strings – but was worth every cent and every tear and every phlegmy cough of Euro Flu. You haven’t really traveled unless you catch the deliciously sexy Euro Flu. ;

Looking forward to the Boatshed gig in Manly next Wednesday night with my beautiful band.

Come along say hi,

Seven Days

One week til I hop on the flight of death and step back into a life I left nearly eight months ago. That keen!

I have four gigs planned so make sure you come along and say hi. I’ll also be writing with some peeps, exploring some of Spain and writing some more.

I do believe I will be seeing The Cure at Bilbao Festival and.. Wait for it.. Sum41.

If you didn’t know me in my awkward adolescent stage of life, you will not know I had an actual obsession with Sum41. It was a full blown, crazy, parents were worried about me obsession. I was not along though, Georgia, Sam and Fliss were my team mates and we were batting for Sum41. I wouldn’t change a thing. I have the best memories of tearing up a mosh pit, learning to skate and arriving at a party dressed as a chubby boy.

I did indeed get sidetracked, but the point is, Fliss is going to Bilbao too and we are going to get cray cray.

So my first gig is at Regal Room in Hammersmith, London on Friday July 6. The night after I play at Surya in Hollaway if that’s more your style.

A Blog On The Bus

Jar Of Hearts is a song that touched loads of people- especially my sister. We’ve all got those special songs that we play when we’re down, or before we leave the tarmac and embark on an adventure. When a lovely friend offered us free tix to see Christina Perri at The Enmore, I jumped at it. Lloyd and my sis came along and we had a grand ol time.

Jar Of Hearts by Christina Perri

Jordan Millar supported and was great (he always is). He’s playing at Cafe Lounge in Surry Hills, Sydney if anyone’s interested. Anywho, Christina Perri was awesome and I loved her manner on stage. She had the cutest fans too.

Went to a Vivid Live talk called Unleashing The Imagination.. It was pretty cool. Here’s some pics I took after on instagram.

Meanwhile, Darren’s going great guns on the voice. His last performance was off tha heezey. Please vote for him or buy one of his songs off iTunes, which I’ve had on repeat just quietly. He produced my ep Just The Wind and is a lovely soul and so bloody talented and hard working. He deserves it. And he’s the best.

I have booked another gig in London at The Regal Room on July 28! Come along, or if you can’t, never fear – download the app or watch on the Justin Tv Website wherever you are. Pretty cooooool.

Till next time,

Larissa x
