Lyrical singer/songwriter Larissa McKay’s style defies categorisation but slides within pop between blue-eyed soul, singer/songwriter and country-pop. She doesn’t like to be pigeon holed.
Nor is she afraid of musical adventures, backing herself in some tough environments. She has performed on three continents, created four EPs, won a Billboard Songwriting Award, made three professional music videos, has been a three-times finalist inMusic Oz, and once in the Listen Up Songwriting Prize. She has been selected as the APRA AMCOS 2020 Artist in Residency Program and is mentoring emerging singers and songwriters.
Along the way she has supported Boy & Bear, Sarah Blasko, Gabrielle Caplin, Cloud Control, Bertie Blackman, Mark Seymour (Hunters & Collectors), Renee Geyer and jammed with INXS. While based in London in 2010 2012 she sang at popular clubs including Ronnie Scott’s, The Barfly & The Garage. She has performed her songs on the bill of The Great Escape Festival (UK), Festival of the Sun (AUS), Manly International Jazz Festival (AUS) and Surry Hills Festival (AUS). Her music has been aired on the likes of Triple J, FBI Radio, and Joy FM and her videos have been shown on RAGE.
Larissa after a string of successful shows in Los Angeles and NYC in 2009, returned to the US in July-August 2014 to promote her latest EP, In the Clouds, and played two exclusive showcases, one in San Francisco and the other in West Hollywood.
A self-taught keyboardist, Larissa prides herself on her strong and unwavering work ethic, and her ability to write & arrange songs in a unique way that connects with an audience.
Larissa plays regularly around Sydney at various bars, pubs, hotels and special events including Mr. Tipplys, Australia Day at Dee Why Beach, Donnys, Newport Arms Hotel, Wharf Bar, Stowaway Bar, Westfield Shopping Centres, Small Bar, The Foxtrot and Bar100.
She is also collaborating with various electronic dance producers including L D R U, Yahtzel, Nick Lynar, Akouo, Lem & Wej, Sam Roberts and Zac Casella.
Larissa says, “I love everything about music. The therapeutic nature of songwriting, the buzz of being on stage, the incredibly talented and interesting people I’ve worked with and met along the way. But when it comes down to it, I just love being creative and productive. I feel very grateful that people get a kick out of listening to the songs I’ve created.”
Over Larissa’s bursting career she has written hundreds of songs, recorded many, sung backing vocals on Bryan Estepas latest album, has written and performed a score for a short film called Huw, sung and appeared in the video for soul/funk band Kid Confucius. She also teaches singing, piano and songwriting coaching to a select few.
Under her latest musical project Citadel, she has released three EPs and full length album titled, Birth of the Wolf. She plays live music at yoga classes and wellness festivals, lead breathwork and sound healing workshops and is listened broadly digitally.
In April 2020 she relocated from Sydney to Byron Bay and enjoys playing live music for events and weddings, DJing, working one on one and running workshops.
